PETER NEVIN, FOUNDER
After college (University of
San Francisco Computer Science), Peter Nevin worked in San Francisco's
Financial District as a consulting software engineer throughout
the 1980s. A wide range of technical experience and crossing over
into multiple industries, Peter developed his entrepreneurial
spirit and his passion for problem solving in the field of experts
systems. The early 90s brought the internet and most of his consulting
at this time was designing internet based on-line benefit enrollment
systems used by many Silicon Valley hi-tech companies.
As a hobbyist wine enthusiast,
Peter wanted to expand his knowledge into the wine industry. In
1995 Peter interviewed for a contract software engineering position
with Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards and it turned out to be a great opportunity.
The goal was to build a winery-wide enterprise system from grape
treatments to account management; this was quite a challenge at
the time as the industry was void of software solutions. Peter
first cut his teeth by working with wine industry maverick Brice
Cutrer Jones, the Founder of Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards. Nevin was
hired after several attempts by Jones to get the information he
needed to truly control the penetration and placements Sonoma-Cutrer
with Information Technology, it was a match made in heaven. Peter's
no-nonsense approach to Sonoma-Cutrer's distribution system coupled
with his technological expertise quickly righted a ship that had
a direction but no navigation tools.
In the subsequent years, Nevin
proved himself as a force within the wine industry, creating the
systems that an eighty-thousand to one-twenty-thousand case winery
needed to grow grapes, press fruit, analyze juice, bottle wine
and then place the wine in the top restaurants across America.
